Hernan Cortez was also a thief.  He took many riches from the Aztecs, but he only wanted gold.  There was a war that started and that is when he started stealing all of the gold and riches from the Aztecs

When we conquered the Aztec City Hernan renamed it Mexico City. Hernan wanted to have his own land so he had us as his crew kill the Aztecs so he could conquer the City and make it his own.  He also stole their gold, riches, and land.  I didn't want to be a killer  but because I was part of Hernan Crew I was forced to help him accomplish these missions and kill the people who were standing in the way of Hernan succeeding. Now I will be called a killer,

Like the Taino people, many of the Aztecs died from diseases.  We, the Spanish actually were the ones who brought the diseases to their country.  I feel so sad that everyone is getting sick and dying.  Because he brought so many sick people and slaves to their cities they now have these diseases also. Because Hernan wants to conquer the Aztec City he has forced us, his crew,  to kill everyone.  I am not speaking to Hernan during our trip because he doesn't care about what is happening to his crew or the people we are trying to conquer.  All he cares about is stealing their gold and riches.

How would you feel about many of your family, friends, and people in your town dying from diseases?  Hernan Cortes didn't care.  I am very upset because many people are sick and dying and he isn't doing anything to help any of us.  He is also pressuring us into killing people.  He forced us, his crew, into killing the Aztecs so he could conquer the Aztec City.  He forced us to fight and kill for him and he turned out to be a thief.  When the war started he stole a lot of other peoples gold and riches and did not allow us to have any of the gold.

When we were sailing the ocean many people followed us on it. Everyone knew how good of a leader he was and they wanted to follow him.  We all knew that everyone wanted to find gold, riches and a new life.  Because of that they were trying to sabotage other people who were looking for the same thing and ruin our trip to the Golden Cities.  Luckily our ship wasn't hit or sabotaged.

As you can see the trip with Viceroy was very interesting and that is what amazed me.

we sent back many messages like a small cross would mean no cities were found and a large cross would mean that we found the golden cities, but when we sent things back no one answered us. That was mean!!!
 viceroy was a good person but he didnt want to anything except for looking for gold, so instead of reading and writing we had to send crosses. it was alot of work to send the crosses.

when we spent weeks in the desert i thought i was going to die, because we had to find our own food and water and if we didnt go through the desert we wouldnt be going the right direction. we also had to go through the desert to find the golden cities. It was so hot in the desert!!

Would you die if you had to spend weeks in a desert on a trip? thats what viceroy mendoza did while looking for the golden cities. I was very impressed because we had to spend weeks in a desert and find our own food and water. that was kind of challenging!!! we knew how to send back messages. but nobody sent anything back. Maybe they didnt get any messages. many people followed us on the voyage. He was a really good leader maybe thats why. it was really fun!!!

day 5, today was an interesting day. my friend Cabeza de vaca pretended to be a medicine man and people came to him. he actually healed them too! over 500 of us were shoved into only 5 boats. My friends josh and angel fell over board and drowned, but luckily I made new friends.

Day 4, chris really wanted to find gold. he didn't know that there were only tiny bits of gold in rivers that the Taino had to find. When we went back to spain he took native plants, parrots and six Taino prisoners on the ships. this was really fun. we got to see different plants, animals and what Tainos looked like.

columbus and spain

day 3, columbus claimed the islands for spain. everywhere we sailed he met Taino people. he wrote about all the people he met in his journal. he was impressed by what they all could do, but he still thought he was better than anyone. This is what he wrote, "They were built with good bodies and handsome features..... they would make fine servants....... with fifty men we could make them do whatever we want". since the Taino wore fine gold and jewelry, chris thought that there were gold mines on the islands.this was awesome because we saw real gold on the Tainos, got to see what they do and that they are really talented.

the caribbean

Day 2, after a month, columbus and the crew arrived at the islands of the Caribbean. chris called the people on the islands indians because chris thought they reached islands close to china called the indies. he met two Taino people on the trip. they had been living there for over 2,000 years. this voyage was great because we got to see the ocean and we saw people who lived there for over 2,000 years and got to hear chris call Tainos indies.

Day 1, We went with Christopher Columbus to convince the king and queen of Spain to fund for the voyage.He told them that he would bring back riches from Asia. Many people thought christopher was crazy. I thought it was really fun to go on a voyage with Christopher because I could see if he knew how to control a ship and if the voyage would be worth it. He asked many times, the king and queen gave him 3 ships, a crew and voyage supplies. we then set sail.
